2012-05-01 15:27:37 Ugly Meter App Earns Half a Million Dollars

BY ERIN DISMEIER ANCHOR CHRISTINA HARTMAN While the iphone app that judges your appearance is nothing new, the Ugly Meter has reached a profit milestone about 18 months after its release. The Daily Mail reports. "The developers say they have made more than half a million dollars on the app - admitting it made $80,000 in just a single day after it was mentioned on the Howard Stern radio show in the U.S." The Ugly Meter isn't just doing well financially. One of the app's developers, Joe Overline, told CNN it has risen to prominence internationally. "Last month we were number one in China for about three weeks. We were the number one app overall." The app development company responsible for the Ugly Meter, Dapper Gentlemen, told CNet they plan to use this success to expand its operations. "That cash isn't going to waste...Joe Overline, went back on the Stern's show last week and said his company is now planning to hire another programmer to advance its application-development plans." There are two versions of the Ugly Meter available. The original gave the user a score from one to ten and costs 99 cents and is currently ranked number 1 on iTunes. Overline told Fox 10 the newer version costs about five bucks and is more complex. "The one two years ago was just kind of a party app. But the new Ugly Meter Pro that we made actually scans your bone structure, takes about 100 points on your face and gives you a real rating on how attractive you are."
